I have some exciting news that I’ve been sitting on for a while. From the 22nd of December until the 12th of January, I’ll be off on an adventure to some very wild and wonderful places – New Zealand’s Sub-Antarctic Islands (and one of Australia’s as well!). This blog is to let you know where I’m going, and to thank the Enderby Trust for granting me a scholarship to go with Heritage Expeditions on two of their trips.
Trip #1 Departing from Invercargill, this takes me to the Snares, Auckland, and Campbell Island groups, as well as Australia’s Macquarie Island – where I’m looking forward to seeing King and Royal Penguins.
Trip #2 revisits the Snares, Auckland, and Campbell groups, in the company of acclaimed photographer Tui de Roy and the New Zealand Geographic Photographer of the Year from 2015. Dad will also be joining me for the second journey, and I can’t wait for us to have another adventure together.
I’m looking forward to being re-acquainted with my favourite birds – penguins, petrels, and albatross – as well as exploring the rugged landscapes and wild ecology of the subantarctic zone.
While I’m away the blog will update once a week – just short posts that I’ll schedule in advance, as I’ll have no connectivity while bobbing around in the Southern Ocean (trying to keep my insides….inside). I look forward to sharing my adventures when I return – with plenty of photographic illustration, of course!
