What’s most interesting about a landscape when you are in it? For me, it’s all the little details, the textures that don’t necessarily get picked up when you make a wide -angle landscape photograph. They add to the story of a place and give it character and a uniqueness. When putting together a photo-essay they can help highlight important details.
I’ve picked a few textures from our South Island trip here to illustrate aspects of the landscape that really stood out to me. Everyone will have their own particular details that they remember, and these are just my take on it!
The long gold grass of the Canterbury Plains in morning light.
Water-worn stones on the lakeshore.
Vibrant lichen encrusting a weathered fencepost.
The great thing about texture photographs is you can take them anywhere, even at home. So give it a go!
