White fantail

This little bird, this unusual leucistic fantail, spurred a lot of interest last year. I spent a lot of time watching it and chatting to people visiting the cemetery where it was living. They weren’t ‘bird-people’, but they were just as entranced as I was by this beautiful little oddity. Leucistic birds, or partly-leucistic birds seem to pop up quite often in my life – but that’s only because I spend more time than the average person looking at birds, and photographing them. I love these experiences because you can’t plan for them – you can’t set out to find them – they just happen when they happen. They’re like little gifts from the world. This particular one I feel very lucky to have received, and to have been able to share it with so many people.
